Exec. Director, Scientific Affairs

In search of a physician career change opportunity or a new non-clinical career? An executive search firm is looking to fill the position of Executive Director, External Scientific Affairs, for a pharmaceutical company located in north-central New Jersey.

 

Synopsis:
* Establish and manage an external scientific affairs department responsible for the identification of potential in-licensing and co-development opportunities. 
* Develop candidate and product licensing, R&D collaborations, external technology relationships and support of M&A opportunities.
* Develop intelligence activities to re-evaluate the internal early-stage programs which are on going in the company outside the USA.
* Work with global R&D leadership to identify strategic pipeline needs and implementation of an external scientific affairs program to identify in-licensing opportunities consistent with these internal therapeutic strategic needs.

 

Responsibilities:
* Establish relationships with potential co-development and in-licensing partners to accelerate the identification of external opportunities and manage the scientific assessment evaluation.
* Provide expertise in the scientific assessment, therapeutic evaluation and feasibility for external in-licensing opportunities.
* Work with R&D, Commercial, Business Development and Licensing to support the evaluation and feasibility analysis team so as to coordinate full overview of in-licensing opportunity and prepare document for submission and presentation to the Licensing Steering Committee.
* Collaborate with global R&D Planning and R&D senior management to ensure complete understanding of the R&D research portfolio and in-licensing needs.
* Recruit, hire, and manage external scientific affairs staff.

 

Qualifications:
MD or PhD and or MD/PhD degree is required.  4-6 years experience as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry with discovery research laboratory experience.  4-6 years experience associated with an external scientific affairs or business development capacity in the pharma industry.  Experience leading the internal process scientific/technical review of an internal in-licensing candidate.  Good experience or focus in the area of Oncology.  Experience in other therapeutic areas such as Cardiovascular and Endocrine Metabolic are a plus.  Good experience and knowledge of biologics is a plus.
