Carilion Clinic is hosting their second annual Women in Medicine Conference: “The Evolving Journey: Practical Tools for Thriving Professionally and Personally.”The conference will take place at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, Roanoke, VA, from October 24-26, 2008.

 

CONFERENCE PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
 

The purpose of the conference is to provide speakers who will serve as mentors by:
• Sharing something of their personal story in medicine.
• Imparting “practical tools” that women can use to improve practices and/or personal lives.
• Encouraging women to clarify and create their unique path in medicine.
 

The conference has been developed to focus on the personal, professional and academic tracks for women
physicians and midlevel providers.
 

Personal Track – the participants will be able to:
• Assess current roles, work/life balance.
• Apply tools that help to prioritize roles and goals.
• Determine goals for gaining and sustaining improved balance.
• List goals for improving parenting, relationships, personal health and communication.
 

Professional Track – the participants will be able to:
• Assess professional satisfaction.
• Determine goals for professional development.
• Define practical tools for effective management of office staff.
• List effective ways of communication with supervisors, colleagues, and employees.
• Develop a personal definition of “success”.
 

Academic Track – the participants will be able to:
• Determine pros / cons of incorporating research into practice.
• List resources needed/available for research support.
• Define academic medicine and tenure tracks.
• List steps needed to advance in academic medicine.

 

This is a CME program.

 

Registration Fee for Physicians and Mid-level Providers is $595.

 

Registration Fee for Residents and Students is $400.
