The American Medical Writers Association will be holding their 69th annual conference on October 22-24, 2009 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

“This year’s conference offers a stellar lineup of 38 open sessions (included with your registration fee) with expert speakers on topics such as copyright, globalization of medical writing, publication guidelines, health policy reform, health literacy, CME, PubMed and Medline Plus, writing and teaching in a second language, palliative care, risk management in the pharmaceutical world, hot topics in medical ethics, osteoporosis update, direct-to-consumer advertising, retooling how freelances marketing their services, protecting your investments, LinkedIn, various software programs, plus a half-day training session on EndNote.
The Dallas conference will also offer 87 workshops and 77 breakfast roundtable discussions to bring you up-to-date on the latest developments in technology and software, current publication standards, regulations, and medicine. In addition, 30 fun and entertaining coffee and dessert klatches will be offered.
Annette Flanagin, RN, MA, is this year’s McGovern Medal recipient and will be speaking on “Publishing Research on Publishing: Valid and Useful or the Ultimate Oxymoron?” at the luncheon. This year’s recipient of the Alvarez Award is David Dary, author of Frontier Medicine: From the Atlantic to the Pacifi c, 1492-1941. Dary will be the featured speaker at the Alvarez Lunch.
