Medical thriller writer and physician Michael Palmer has completed his latest novel, “First Patient,” which will be released in a few months.

The following appears on Michael palmer’s website.

“Jennifer Enderlin, Michael’s editor at St. Martin’s Press feels this book is the strongest he has written to date. It is a political/medical thriller centering about President Andrew Stoddard’s one-time Naval Academy roommate, Gabe Singleton, who is now a small-town physician in Wyoming, still trying with only some success to work through the fallout from a tragic accident thirty years ago. Driving in an alcohol-induced black-out, Gabe killed a young woman and her unborn son. He was kicked out of the Academy and spent a year in prison. Now, he spends long hours as a physician, goes on medical missions, and works tirelessly with a youth group he has founded. As the novel opens, Marine One lands in Gabe’s yard. The president has flown out to deliver startling news and a stunning request. His personal physician has disappeared without a trace, and he needs Gabe to come to Washington to take over his medical care until the upcoming neck-and-neck election is done. There is one small item, however, that Gabe doesn’t learn until after he arrives at the White House: bit by bit, this friend and former roommate is going insane.

Palmer says, “THE FIRST PATIENT, dealing with presidential morbidity, the Twenty-Fifth Amendment, and nanotechnology, is a thriller worthy of the name, with more twists and turns than in any book I’ve written so far, and an ending that is a jaw-dropper. Publication is set for February, 2008—an election year!”
