We have previously posted articles from a resource called cover-letters.com, that includes 1001+sample letters useful for networking and job search. Here is an interesting article on writing letters to help others with their job search.
“If you’re a job seeker:
When appropriate, encourage your close friends to write to their key contacts on your behalf. They should send both a letter and a resume, and they should follow up within a few days to check for leads. If they find interest, they can ask their friends to telephone you, saving you the pressure of making a cold call.
Let’s take an example: Suppose you’re goal is to be Controller for a large printing company, and one of your close friends sells for International Paper. Since you know the salesperson well, it makes sense to ask them to mail a letter and resume to introduce you to their contacts in printing companies. (Draft a sample letter to show them what to say.)
If you have an unemployed friend or relative:
It’s difficult to know what to say or do when friends or family are unemployed, especially if they’re having a difficult time in the job market. But sometimes you can help them more than they can help themselves. You may be able to open some doors for them.
Think carefully about your own personal contacts. Do you know someone who has information or influence? Someone who can help? Someone who might want to interview the candidate? Can you provide a personal introduction? If so, don’t be afraid to volunteer assistance. Most job seekers welcome all the help they can get.”
