To better your understanding of non-clinical career options and/or facilitate your physician career change, today we introduce you to Massimo Testa, MD. In case you have been watching the Tour de France and wondering about some of the physician experts behind the scenes, here’s a little information about one of them – Dr. Massimo (Max) Testa.

 

Dr. Testa has a rare combination of qualities. He is a physician and exercise physiologist. During the past 25 years, when he began his own sports performance lab in Lake Como, Italy, he has been at the forefront of exercise science and medicine. He has trained and cared for some of the best professional and amateur athletes in every major sport, currently including Levi Leipheimer os the Astana cycling team.  Max has spoken to professional groups on sports training throughout the world, and authored countless articles and research papers. As team doctor for the 7-11, Motorola, and Mapei professional cycling teams during the course of more than 15 Tours de France and Giro d’Italias, his experiences are unprecedented.

 

Over the past five years, along with Dr. Eric Heiden, he has developed the UC Davis Sports Performance Program in Sacramento, CA.

 

Dr. Testa now provides cycling coaching services as Director of Coaching for AthletiCamps. He will continue to work with athletes of all abilities to produce winners at every level of the sport.

 

Medical Education – University of Pavia, Italy, MD, Family Practice, 1982 and specialization in Sports Medicine, 1985. 

 

Society Membership – Member of the Sporting Safety and Conditions Commission if the International Cycling Union (UCI), Lausanne, Switzerland; Member of the Italian Association of Cycling Physicians.
