To better your understanding of non-clinical career options and/or facilitate your physician career change, today we introduce you to Peter S. Edelstein, MD. Dr. Edelstein joined Aragon Surgical, Inc. as President and Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors in August 2005, just prior to the company’s Series A1 financing. Previously, Dr. Edelstein had participated in the development and analysis of the company’s initial market research and in the pre-clinical evaluation of Aragon Surgical’s electrosurgical technology.
One of a limited number of surgeons board certified both by the American College of Surgeons and also by the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Dr. Edelstein has extensive experience in general, gastrointestinal, oncologic, and trauma surgery as practiced in both the academic and private settings. Author of numerous articles and book chapters, advisory editor of a major cancer encyclopedia, and editor of a cancer textbook, Dr. Edelstein has repeatedly won awards for his outstanding teaching, most recently while on faculty at the Stanford University Medical Center.
Prior to joining Aragon Surgical, Dr. Edelstein served as Vice President of Clinical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for Novasys Medical, Inc., joining the company as a founding officer prior to the initial financing. During his six years at Novasys Medical, Dr. Edelstein participated in all aspects of product development through commercialization, including guiding the company through complex clinical and regulatory processes which resulted in FDA clearance. Dr. Edelstein also served as the first and sole physician on the Board of Directors for the Medical Device Manufacturers Association, and he continues to serve as an advisor to several medical device firms.
