Head of Pre-Clinical Development
This opportunity is focused on a therapeutic for epilepsy and anxiety, which involves a desynchronization platform technology that is a non-synaptic mechanism of treatment.
Scope:
The Head of Preclinical Development will report to the Senior Vice President of Operations and be responsible for strategically leading compounds through preclinical development.
The primary focus of this position will be to assess and employ appropriate in vivo models to validate the pharmacological effects of product candidates.
* Oversee the development of analytical methods required to support product development.
* Manage the technical aspects of pharmaceutics services provided by contract organizations for the company’s product pipeline.
* Positioning programs for pre-clinical and clinical development.
* Provide necessary guidance to the company’s basic science project teams.
* Interact with contract research organizations and extensive familiarity with safety, toxicology and DMPK studies.
* Provide leadership to multi-functional project teams, investigating established lead compounds and moving these through the preclinical development pipeline.
* Overseeing the assessment and utilization of in vivo models of potential use for the evaluation of candidate lead compounds, including experimental design, interpretation and analysis of data, and preparation of animal model data for internal reports, corporate presentations and regulatory filings.
* Interpretation and analysis of preclinical data, including the preparation of preclinical data for internal reports, corporate presentations and regulatory filings.
* Work with the senior management team on broad Research & Development strategies and issues.
Qualifications:
PhD or MD required. Approximately 10 years of pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology experience, with specific experience in the research and development of anti-epileptic compounds. Experience in pre-clinical development of neurology drugs required. A strong experience base in conventional small molecule drug development in the area of anti-epilepsy/CNS drug development, as well as project management is required. Additionally, a detailed understanding of the regulatory process is required with specific expertise in data requirements for an IND filing. A thorough understanding of the drug development process with particular emphasis on data requirements for an IND filing and conducting early stage clinical proof of concept clinical trials. A solid track record of successfully initiating and implementing drug development projects within an industrial research environment. Experience managing formulation development/extended release formulations a plus.
