In search of a physician career change opportunity or a new non-clinical career? An executive search firm is looking to help a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company fill the position of Principal Research Scientist or Associate Director or Director.
The goal of Translational Medicine at this client is to form a bridge between teams in drug Discovery and Clinical Development as means to promote the successful Bench to Bedside transition of new therapeutics. As a scientist in Translational Medicine you will identify biochemical, physiological and other relevant biomarkers/efficacy surrogates for use in early clinical trials as well as in animal models of autoimmune disease. You will initiate, lead, and supervise focused discovery, validation and implement studies of biomarkers research in support of drug discovery programs. You will participate in teams that form strategies, tactics for biomarkers discovery, and implementation in Rheumatic disease drug discovery programs. You will also work closely with the Translational Medicine group in Europe via joint Research Collaborations towards biomarker discovery, validation and implementation. You will maintain strong scientific publications, presentations and engagements in professional forums, symposia, etc.

 

The Translational Medicine Scientist will evaluate the potential utility of relevant compounds transitioning to Discovery for use against targeted disease indications. You will participate on Therapeutic Area Research Teams to advise on the selection of patient groups and/or volunteer models for initial indication of efficacy in humans. As a member of the Translational Medicine team for a particular therapeutic, you will be responsible for development, execution and oversight of biomarker activities in early clinical studies. Also, you will act as an advisor to Clinical R&D in recommending biomarker strategies and applications in late-stage clinical trials. You will be responsible for review of the published literature as well as other sources of information to provide team members with timely summaries and critical evaluations of advances in basic and clinical understanding of RHEUMatic diseases. You will propose and initiate action plans in emerging technologies related to diagnosis and treatment of RHEUMatic diseases.

 

Requirements for consideration include: a PhD, MD or PhD/MD in biological, pharmacological or medical Sciences, obtained in leading teaching institutes; at least one Post-Doctorate Fellowship training focused in cancer cell biology, signaling pathways or carcinogenesis in leading Academic Research Institutions. At least 2 years of research experience in academic or other leading research institutions with demonstrated independent research, evidenced by leadership in grant support, first or senior author publications in peer reviewed, leading professional journals. Emerging reputation in cancer biology and oncology as evidenced by invitations for speaker in professional symposia. Pharmaceutical (discovery) experience is most desired. Knowledge in modern scientific research areas and advanced technologies (e.g., genomics, proteomics) and demonstrated interest in Translational Medicine are important. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills are required. High integrity, professional and personal ethics as evidenced by three references of supervisors and professional colleagues.
