Head of Medical Affairs for Biotech Company

An executive search firm is looking to fill the position of Head of Medical Affairs for a biotechnology company in the Washington, DC, area.

 

In support of the commercialization of the company’s first marketed products, you will be responsible for the development and execution of medical education and communications strategy and will be a key person in establishing and sustaining successful relationships with thought leaders and patient advocacy groups in key therapeutic areas. You will be the key person for product publications and presenting a variety of product information to external audiences. You will be working closely with all functions involved in product development, primarily the commercial and clinical research teams.

Specific responsibilities of this position include:

•Establish successful relationships with key thought leaders academic centers in the rheumatology and infectious disease fields

•Build and leverage successful relationships with patient advocacy groups.
 
•Design and provide technical/medical information support to both internal and external customers

•Prepare publications and presentations ; present product information to external audiences

•As needed, represent  at key medical conferences conventions and symposia; interfacing with potential customers and opinion leaders

•Ensure that all medical education material activities are conducted with compliance with relevant guidance, rule and regulations

•Support medical activities of key commercial partners for the programs

•In the future, help evaluate, monitor and report on Phase IV investigator initiated clinical trials

 
Requirements:
•MD in general medicine, rheumatology or infectious disease, with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications is required.

•Prior experience (2-5 years) in medical affairs, including working with thought leaders and preparing publications and presentations for clinicians is required

•Understanding of drug development and commercial activities is required

•Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

•Self-starter who is willing to take initiative to move project forward with the ability to act independently to determine appropriate procedures to complete new assignments

•Strong team orientation, who is willing to work with all areas of the company to help successful commercial development of  therapeutic agents

•Excellent relationship building skills and credibility with clinicians is required

•Must excel at all forms of communications with a focus on preparing and giving presentations, as well as writing and editing scientific and medical publications and training materials
