Here’s a totally different kind of non-clinical career self-created by a clever physician entrepreneur. PRN member Dr. Rahul Gokhale is a 2006 graduate of the Orthopaedic Surgery residency program at the University of Cincinnati and co-founder of Resident to Resident (R2R) Real Estate, LLC, a novel approach to providing real estate for students, residents and fellows.
Dr. Gokhale and his wife created R2R out of frustration with the inability to sell their town home in a timely fashion. Their property was on the market from March 2006 until its sale in August of 2007. For an entire year during his fellowship, they were forced to pay rent in one place and mortgage back in Cincinnati.
Two key ingredients form the foundation of this web-based service. One is the predictable turnover of medical students and residents every year thus creating a built-in real estate market. The other is camaraderie and the genuine interest of a resident or student to help out a fellow doctor in training. Using this formula, graduating home owners can sell or lease their property to eager residents or students free of commission and move on to the next phase of their careers. Likewise, resident/student buyers can benefit from the honest advice they receive from their graduating counterparts as they move into their ideal home.
As R2R continues to grow, we aim to provide exclusive discounts and services to our members through partnerships with local and national companies via Med-Biz Connect. We have developed the R2R Affiliate Program to enlist our members’ help to recruit these businesses.
Dr. Gokhale says, “Resident to Resident Real Estate connects buyers, sellers, lessees, and lessors who are in medical school or residency training around the country for free. Additionally, using this ‘medical real estate exchange’ as a platform, I aim to create a virtual marketplace where local and national businesses can easily capture the physician-in-training market.”
