“[They] are currently looking for an Medical Officer to provide health and safety and general treatment for our marine conservation and research programme in Andavadoaka, southwest Madagascar. The position is voluntary, and for a minimum period of 2 months.

The position involves providing health care to all staff and volunteers as well as emergency medical treatment and overseeing CASEVAC if the need arises. The role also requires maintenance of medical supplies and enforcement of on-site health and safety measures. A suitable candidate will also provide supervision to medical students on elective, provide team briefings on hygiene and basic first aid. A suitable candidate needs to be a qualified doctor, nurse or paramedic. A & E experience as well as a qualified diver to Advanced Open Water level is desirable but not essential. An experience of diving related illness would be of great help and knowledge of teaching first aid. Keeping accurate records is also essential and reports are submitted frequently to the home base.

 

The position is voluntary and will offer an opportunity to increase medical expedition experience in a tropical environment. The candidate will take part in normal day to day running of the camp and will have an opportunity to do surveys and work within the local community. An essential role will be assisting the Expedition Manager with the management of up to 15 international staff and volunteers.”
